Can Lawyers Go to Heaven?

OK, so we do pick on lawyers – for the most part they are pretty good sports about the seemingly endless stream of jokes and stories that make them appear unappealing! Can doctors go to heaven? Truck drivers? Elementary teachers? Line cooks? Some of them can. Only some of them.

People can make a decision that takes them to heaven if they’ve heard the gospel clearly and simply. The ones who’ve heard from someone they trust and like are most likely to really listen. On the other hand, when we hear statistics like “only 30% of the people in the US go to church,” we wonder where the 70% will get their spiritual information!

In March, 2007, the Dallas Morning News published an article called, “Faith is latest type of diversity in workplace.” In this article, Stew Friedman, director of the Work/Life Integration Project at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business said, “The old paradigm of leaving your beliefs behind when you go to work is no longer satisfying. More than ever, people want work that fits in with a larger sense of purpose in life.”

“The busyness of my life often (or always) gets in the way of developing my relationship with God,” said 62% of the Christians in a recent study by Michael Zigarelli of Charleston Southern School of Business. Is that true of you? All the more reason for us think about our relationships at work and how they fit into our overall Christian life. After all, we spend 50% or more of our life at work! Can we make that time reflect the integrity and mission of our Christian commitment? How?

How do you help a lawyer get to heaven? Or a truck driver? Or a nurse? Or your best friend at work? How do you do it now? What would you like to be able to do?
