What did you think about God? Did you even think about God? Were you hopeless? Independent and self-sufficient? Lost in a maze of conflicting religious ideas? Well, to connect with another person about salvation, you need to think about where you were before you made that decision yourself. Make it a point to relate your experience simply, avoiding things that are so personal that it might make another person uncomfortable. Then let a friend know that you were lost before you were found. Remember that feeling you had before you were saved and use it as a catalyst for sharing the good news with compassion and understanding.

We need to pray for our friends at work. We need to pray that they are successful at work. We need to pray for their health, their families, their safety when they travel, and for sound relationships with them that are good, solid friendships. We need to pray that God will lead them to trust in Christ for their salvation, whether we tell them the Good News or someone else does. We need to pray for them intentionally, understanding that we are part of the “preparing the ground,” “sowing the seeds of the gospel,” and “harvesting,” that are the grand cycle of God’s approach to telling the Good News. Then, when we have the opportunity to tell them about the Good News, we should be conversational and gentle in our approach. Our job is to present Christ to our friends. The Holy Spirit can take it from there!

Evangelism is a fruitless exercise at work unless the person who is sharing the Good News is a competent, kind, interested acquaintance or friend who has taken the time to know and connect in a fairly transparent way with others. Being a Christian is not a license to “deliver” the gospel of Jesus Christ like a sandwich. Quite the contrary - reverence for God is an attitude that includes the love of people – if you love people, they’ll know it because you will behave with them with the humility, acceptance, and kindness they crave. In other words, treat them as if they are in the family of God already. Do for them what you would do for a member of your Bible Study group, or a favorite church friend. Think about it.
