Thanks so much for your comment, Marcus. We did the podcasts here in our studio and will have a series of them on thegospelatwork. Our next one will be with Douglas Groothuis, author of Truth Decay. We have good technology for doing podcasts over the phone, so that opens the world up for all of us. No in-house video yet, but it’s a project for 2008. Name some folks you think we should interview!

Hi, Mike, and thanks so much for your inspiring response. Hospice chaplaincy requires such a servant’s heart. Thank you for your dependency on the Lord and your obedience to that call. We appreciate your joining us at The Gospel at Work, and really look forward to hearing more from you as we progress. God bless you in the “outside” where you minister.

Bill is such a great guy! I'm glad you featured him--and I'm curious about those pod casts. Are those a service of 24/7 or thegospelatwork? Nice job!

Dear Mary, I enjoyed reading your article. I have been in pastoral ministry since 1984 and for nearly the last 3 years I have been serving as a hospice chaplain. When I accepted this position I went through an emotional upheaval for 24 hours. For I was transitioning from a church base culture to a secular base culture and though I sensed this was what the Lord had for me and my family I wasn't sure how it would all work out. But now I wouldn't trade this kind of work for anything. I am privileged to enter into the final stages of life of people and provide and or affirm the Good News of Jesus Christ to them. Just yesterday and today I was able to share Christ's love with others using the Bad News/Good News. Whether it is with patients, their families or my co-workers I seek to live as an "insider" bringing God's grace and truth to as many as I can. An excellent resource that helps me in this is Jim Petersen's and Mike Shamy's book and workbook: The Insider - Bringing the Kingdom of God into your everyday world. I think there is much that needs to be said to encourage and equip fellow believers to be going to and serving others with Christ's love right where we live, work and play. Thank you for your effort in this great endeavor. God's blessings on you. Mike

Hi and thanks for your comment. There are a number of Cyber Church related sites, one of which is an aggregator site, www.internet-churches.com. Some of the links are not active, but if you browse around you’ll get the idea. There are some evangelism and church chats, too. Most of these churches broadcast over the Internet, some have chats. But the fully interactive model is harder to reproduce.

The closest I’ve found is www.infinitechurch.com which has a really interesting interface, services, chat, forums and is trying to achieve a “close to real church” experience. I just joined one of the forums as MaryatWork.

We have tried to achieve the community you (and Jesus) see as critical in our Sunday 24/7 offering on our blog. All the components except the people, the fun, and the prayers are available online. We really hope that people try Sunday 24/7 if they have to work on Sunday or have a group that would like to worship together in addition to church attendance.

Our next program will be Service 24/7 which encourages and equips people to create and perform service projects together with their Christian friends at work, regardless of where they attend church. The participants could be a group that has Sunday 24/7 lunches, Bible studies, or other things they do together. The group decides there’s something that they can/should do for the needy, the sick, or someone at work in crisis. So they get the resources from Service 24/7 and go for it!

I saw these stats on Barna.org recently and I was just blown away. I do participate in religious activities online such as listening to worship music and sermon podcasts. But I've always thought that one of the most important functions of the traditional church is community. So can we really experience community online?

I would have immediately said "no" to that question recently. With the rise of Web 2.0 and social networking, we're seeing a huge explosion in the numbers of people who participate in community-oriented activities online. Friendships are built. Knowledge is pursued. Business is completed.

However, I have yet to experience this kind of church or religious community online. Any suggestions?
